David B. Hair, MD FACS

David B. Hair, MD, a board certified ophthalmologist, is the founder and medical director of the Bakersfield Eye Institute. After training directly under several of the nation’s top eye surgeons, the Garces High School graduate returned to Bakersfield to establish his medical practice. He proudly offers Kern County residents a full-gamut of medical and surgical ophthalmology services.

Dr. Hair graduated with honors in biochemistry and was the class valedictorian at the University of Nevada, Reno. He went on to earn a medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., and then remained at Georgetown University for his ophthalmology residency at the Washington National Eye Center.

Following his medical internship and ophthalmology residency, Dr. Hair participated in the esteemed AUPO FCC approved fellowship in cornea, refractive, and external disease at the University of Cincinnati/Cincinnati Eye Institute.  He gained vast experience in LASIK, refractive surgery, cornea transplantation, and complex cataract surgery. Dr. Hair is also uniquely trained in ocular surface reconstruction and artificial cornea transplants.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hair has demonstrated extraordinary surgical capabilities as well as a rare commitment to the community. While still in medical school, he helped establish community glaucoma screening programs in conjunction with the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation. During his residency, he assisted in ocular and facial reconstruction surgeries for United States Marines who suffered devastating wartime injuries. He also served active duty and retired military service men and women at Bethesda National Naval Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.   Dr. Hair is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
